Minister Disappoints in Post Bus Issue

20 March 2009

Scotland's Transport Minister,Stewart Stevenson, has declined to get involved in supporting threatened post buses in the Highlands following a question in Parliament from Labour's Highlands and Islands MSP, Peter Peacock.

Peter Peacock said, "I raised the question of whether the Minister had the powers to support the post bus network under his transport policies and it seems very clear from his answer that he does.

"I also asked if he was considering using his powers in this instance but, regrettably he showed no interest in doing so and thus help secure the network.

"I hope that he will re-consider and not just leave this matter to others and offer some positive support to retain these services which are so vital to a number of people.

"If the Scottish Government is sufficiently concerned about these services they have the powers to do something about it."
