Comment from Peter Peacock following the announcement by the Scottish Government (Stewart Stevenson) that there is to be a review of ferry services.

3 September 2008

"Some aspects of the review appear to examine in a wider context many of the good ideas Storas Uibhist has put forward to provide the Lochboisdale to Mallaig route.

"In the meantime I hope the government does not use this as an excuse to delay any decision on the service until the review is complete.

"It would be disgraceful if that were to be the case, the government is quite happy to press ahead with other aspects of changing ferry policy while this review is underway and there should be no need to delay the much needed decision on the Lochboisdale/Mallaig route.

"I will be tabling some further questions in Parliament on this precise point and look for an assurance there will be no effect of this review on the ferry South Uist wants."
