Feasibility Study on Air Link for Skye

A Highlands and Islands Labour Regional MSP is calling for a feasibility study into an air link from Skye to Glasgow.

Peter Peacock has this week contacted Highlands and Islands Airport and HITRANS, which is the body charged with improving transport links in the Highlands, following local support for a scheduled air service from the Broadford airstrip.

He has also written to the Highland Council Convenor and HIE Chief Executive seeking their views on introducing direct air links to other Scottish cities.

Mr Peacock said: "It seems strange that given the growing population on the island there is no scheduled link between Skye and the central belt.

"The introduction of a service from Glasgow could cut the journey time from six hours to something more like 40 minutes."

"Skye remains the only part of Highland Council area with a significant population and no viable alternative to travel other than by road.

"Iíve also tabled a question at the Scottish Parliament calling for executive support for the link which would have a huge effect on both tourism and business for the island," he added.
